Make it Better- Abstract Texture Art

Since I saw that viral video on Instagram telling everyone how awesome it was to add baking soda to your paint to create texture, (pro tip: Do not do this. See my test results by clicking here), I have been thinking about our old texture online workshop, “Texture Town”.

Chris Cozen and I filmed a super thorough online workshop regarding all things texture way back in 2010. I had previously retired the workshop, but since texture is taking the world by storm right now, I decided to re-open the workshop for a limited time only. Once you are in the workshop, you can watch it forever AND get help and feedback from me forever…but the workshop will not be open to new students for very long.

Take a look at some of the work we did with techniques from our workshop. The main differences from our techniques and what I see on social media these days, are that our techniques and processes are all archival. The techniques help you create complex texture to add to your artwork (hint: your art can stand out from the others when you try to sell it) and we teach a LOAD of paint techniques in that workshop that help you mix a neutral palette, highlight your texture, create implied texture and even collage!

When we filmed this workshop, I was OBSESSED with aged plaster, old walls and natural patina.

Since we work with acrylic paint and acrylic mediums, these techniques don’t only create paintings like the pieces shown here, but you can mix them into your abstract paintings a little here and there too.. that’s what I like best about our workshop content.

Grab the workshop before it closes, keep it forever. This workshop will only be available to purchase through March 2023. Click here to read more and to register for “Texture Town”.
