The Abstracting Workshop, released March 2023, focuses on techniques to help artists of all levels stay loose during the abstraction process while developing complex paintings with interest and high levels of nuance. Have you ever felt awkward or tight when adding shapes or marks to your artwork? This workshop is for YOU! Working with a fixed, limited, color palette and a minimal supply list, Julie provides in depth demonstration of 7 skills that she has been using in her abstraction process. Skill videos are presented so that the artist can practice the skills without working on a complete painting AND a complete painting is shown - start to finish - using the same skills, resulting in 2 different ways to take the workshop! Watch Julie on 3 different camera angles so that you feel like you are in the same room with her as she works through the workshop. Professionally edited HD video runs approximately 4.5 hours. Users have the ability to turn closed captions on or off while watching. This workshop includes access to Julie’s private Facebook Group where students can receive daily feedback on their work and ask questions- without time limits! Class includes a 28 page PDF featuring progress photos for the class sample painting as well as progress photos on a second abstract painting featuring the same workshop skills.

There is a reason that we first filmed a color class way back in 2009 when I decided to teach online art workshops. I strongly believe that in order to make the best art, you need a complete understanding about paint and pigments and in my case, how the layering of different paint impacts your artwork. Therefore, the “Expanding on Color” workshop is an amazing foundation for all artists. This workshop contains about 5 hours of footage including the science, discussion, color mixing and color theory principles that will benefit artists at all levels. In addition to the information about color, Julie will use these techniques in her visual layering process across two paintings start to finish. Understanding paint is the first step in the layering process. In this workshop, you get both: information about pigments and color mixing PLUS Julie’s abstract painting techniques. This workshop is for you if you have trouble picking colors to use in your art, blending or mixing too!

My remaining workshops focus on what I like to call “boutique” topics. They are specialized and I recommend that students choose these if they like the class samples. All of these workshops were filmed prior to “Expanding on Color”. Since my workshops often include trouble shooting to topics and questions my students present in class, I recommend that you sign up for any of these workshops as secondary workshops after you have taken “Expanding on Color” or “The Abstracting Workshop”.

All classes feature unlimited access once you purchase them and all workshops feature feedback and help from ME, whenever you need it.
