NEW! Meet, "The Abstracting Workshop"

Here we go! I have been formulating my latest workshop, “The Abstracting Workshop”, since October 2022 and I am happy to be able to tell you about it today!

Commonly, a student will present artwork to me and they will ask me for their next move or they will explain their hesitation for continuing because they do not want to “ruin” what they have on their canvas so far. In an effort to help students of all levels feel more comfortable and to further understand my process for pulling shapes out of a composition rather than place them onto one, I have developed a group of skills that I think you will enjoy.

The process in this workshop is designed so that students can remain loose while designing their composition. The Skills will help you understand the different stages of your painting including when it is finished and when it needs more work. Following those skills, the final skill is an in-depth look at the glazing and nuance that I add in my artwork. I feel that this workshop and it’s arrangement of material will help you get to where you are going with your painting better than any workshop I have offered before.

Specifically, the workshop contains 4.5 hours of awesome, professionally edited video. The video contains footage of the 7 Skills that I have singled out across my latest body of work. The video also contains footage of my painting, “Origins”, start to finish so that you can paint along or study the process. I feel that there are two ways you can take this workshop: You can simply work on the Skills separately until you feel comfortable with them and then work them into your own practice, OR, you can paint the class sample with me step by step…or BOTH! The class sample for this workshop is the largest painting I have ever filmed (24x30”)! You will also receive a 28 page color downloadable handout when you sign up. The handout includes progress photos that you can study with me while I am working on my painting on video as well as progress photos of my painting, “Throw Flowers” with my notes as well.

Are you frustrated with online workshop videos becasue you can’t see what is happening? I have three camera angles that I switch between. If I am speaking, I’m talking to you…painting a close up detail? You’re there!

As always, this workshop comes with unlimited playbacks AND access to me in my Private Facebook Group for teaching. In the Facebook Group, you can post progress photos of your work, post photos of the techniques for feedback and ask questions. I check in on the Facebook Group daily and love to hear from my students. Too shy? The Facebook Group is super friendly and has a lot of great content already that you are welcome to read through. It’s really great!

I’ve been writing and filming my own online workshops since 2009. With each new workshop, I strive to be better than the last and to make sure that I include new, tangible content that you will enjoy. With the advancement of my camera angles, editing capabilities and artistic growth overall, I think I have that for you here. I am happy to answer any questions you might have in the comments below!
