Thank you for tuning in this week! I had to take a break from teaching art for the last few weeks due to some health complications of a family member, but I am happy to report that things are returning back to normal and my "Mixed Media For Children" segments will again be featured weekly.

This week we can turn any child into an artist simply by giving them a stretched canvas to work on. Stretched canvas is readily available at most art and craft chain stores. You know those coupons that come in the newspaper? Stretched canvas is something you should use those coupons on. Never buy stretched canvas at regular price from a chain craft store.

The results of this art lesson are easily achieved. We learned about acrylic paint, how to mix color, how to use a palette knife (buy the cheap plastic kind) and how to make sure we cover the entire canvas with paint. She is thrilled to have this original work of her art hung on the wall in the house now. We didn't frame it. By just keeping the project simple, we can change out the canvas as her mood dictates.

Using paint that the children do not normally use (In our case, we used really cheap student grade acrylic tube paint- also found in the craft store) and painting on this "special" substrate is sure to make your child start to understand the importance of art! Will you try it? I would love to hear from you.

Thanks again for stopping by today!
