Yah..I went to Comic-con..

I had the opportunity to tag a long with my friend who is in the industry to Comic-con yesterday. I'm a third generation San Diegan, and I have never been..so in an effort to bring myself out of my humidity induced, summer-time art funk, I went along for the ride.

The people who are waiting on line at Comic-con are very upset about waiting in line.. I on the other hand, did not wait on line for anything and just cruised the convention floor.. everyone was very polite and I found the atmosphere very hospitable. It was a fun day people watching and looking at all of the artwork. I picked up a few zines and a stuffed, "Mr. Toast" (I will admit that toast is one of my favorite foods...so what could be so bad about that?) for Kate..

There are a lot of things that you cannot "un-see" that you see at Comic-con....I will spare you those photos.

Have a good week!

Meet Julie Fever today Live!

Tune in today to Mark Lipenski's "Creative Mojo" podcast. Click here. I'll be on from 1:16-1:26 pacific, plenty of time to self-combust live on air. Seth Apter will be live as well, and we'll be talking about something...not sure what. Pam Carriker, Lisa Hoffman, Michelle Ward, Angela Cartwright, and Seth...are you kidding me?

Tomorrow I am heading to NY...I'll pre-record some blog posts here, but I'll be without the internets. Traveling freely...roaming....well, maybe some Instagram..... you know.

Dia de Bloglandia.

I am rushing in under the wire for this celebration..hopefully with more time to make a shrine next year. I like the festiveness that these add to the porch rather than a traditional jack-o-lantern though...I may make more next year. As I explained the tradition to my 5 year old, she was eager to help. That alone made me smile..and I am sure that our loved ones are smiling with us.

Festivities are underway in Old Town, San Diego November 1st and 2nd. These are some shots taken last week as the holiday began to unfold.

The most gracious hosts, Stephanie and Rebecca have put together a tour...come along and take a look!

Where the streets are all named...

Downtown, San Diego

What a weekend! With everyone coming down off their U2 buzz, I thought it would be a great time to show you a video I made of the Photography Field Trip footage. Katie and Carmen and I had an awesome time together...downtown, San Diego- where the streets DO have names. All of them.

I'm working out the kinks of combining stills with HD video...I know my aspect ratio is off on some of the stills...but I still like what I came up with.

Field Trip from Julie Prichard on Vimeo.

I shot everything with my Mark II...and edited it with Totally Rad Actions. Indeed, totally rad.

Oh...I'm also this week's Catalyst!

To the homeless guy that stopped me in traffic to tell me I was "very attractive"...god bless you, Pal!

Disintegration: Phase Numero Dos

Dis-after

I had a video all shot and ready to load of myself scaling a ladder with bolt cutters to get the bundle out of the tree top and......ah..forget it. Here is how my bundle stands today.. a little bit faded..

Dis-rust

With the ever so slight hint of rust forming...

Dis-notes

Love notes came out unscathed...

Dis-leaves

After 3 months in the San Diego sun (and surviving numerous hits with the garden hose), the ghost leaves lost all of their purple color...

Dis-gnomes

So under their watchful eyes...the bundle will return to the elements...underground this time...until phase tres....check back in August!

Well over 100 artists participated in Seth's collaboration. Check out more Disintegration action here.

Thank god it's Friday..you can say that again!

Dead-rose

100mm macro shot of a dead rose; how I feel coming into the weekend..

Friends! I need a vacation! I've been working my fingers to the bone getting ready for my online class... (yes! the class that I am teaching!)to the bone! I have some obligations coming up the next couple of weekends, so I had to cram everything in this week..videos will be finished up today... just adding a few more audio tracks..and then it's off to big time fun time weekend!

Red-journal

a special gift

I'm picking up Becci tomorrow morning! Becci and I have been blog friends through the Street Team for a long time..and when she mentioned her sister lives near me, we scheduled a visit! Not just any visit, I conned Becci into taking the Mermaid Workshop at Casa de Blu this weekend. Yay!! Two days of Club Suzi...exciting!

Disintigrate-progress

phase one of the disintigration collaboration ends May 1!

So many things have been percolating in my little head for so long. I am looking forward to setting them free and getting down to business with new and exciting ventures.

I'll attempt posting from my blackberry during the class..otherwise, I'll be back Monday afternoon with a full report!

Thank you for coming a long for the ride...and have a great weekend!

You show me your graffiti; I'll show you mine...

GW-WIP

Happy Friday..here is where the piece stands..it's starting to get layered up! I am planning something cool (at least it is super cool in my head at this point) for the center....what do you think it will be? Did you see what Seth is making with his portion of the collaboration? Mama mia...I love that this is not a traveling book...

*Only three more hand painted, hand sewn journals left!

*Thanks for all your feedback regarding upcoming online class...rest assured...I am trying to keep your supply list under $20...you will not need an army of Golden acrylic paints..or any big ticket items..and if you've already got acrylic paints (not craft paint)...you're off to a huge start!

Where oh where have I been?

I've been all over....all over without my "good" camera....brought my point and shoot around with me last weekend and I am not happy with the results. This has happened before...never again.

Orange-arch-page

digitally altered project I made in Chris' class

Chris Cozen had a class last Saturday that I enjoyed. The release of her new book, "Transfers and Altered Images" is sure to be a hit. I always refer to her last book, "Altered Surfaces" and it never lets me down. These are technical-like books that are easy to understand. Having trouble with transfers? Chris taught me everything I know. You're going to need this book too!

Julie-Eddie-Michael-Jaithan (2)

Who's that?! I had the pleasure of joining Eddie Ross and Jaithan on Sunday's Rose Bowl flea market excursion! That's my best friend, Michael in the black shirt. We drove together and had a great time. Eddie and Jaithan are so charming...we had so much fun!

GW-in-progress

Finally....here's where I stand on my Graffiti Wall collaboration. I'm in love...these papers are so amazing..and to see them attached to a panel...I can't wait to continue working on this! Check out Seth and Lynne's blogs to see what they are up to with my papers.

Grrl.... you really got me now.

Happy Guerilla Knit Up Day!

OK...so yesterday after I put the knitting up, I went back to the art store during business hours... I overheard another customer talking to an employee say, "I really like your pole coozie...did you guys put it there?" That  made me feel pretty good...but I remained anonymous...

On the way out of the store, I noticed some guys painting over all of the beautiful art featured in the video...I stopped to talk to them about what they were doing and was surprised to meet the artist! That awesome graffiti out back is by Caleb Aero....check out THIS site! Wow...

They're repainting next weekend...I can't wait to go back down there to watch for a while!

Thanks for a wild ride, Grrl!

Paper in wire cage..

Paper-in-cage

I'm totally not cool enough to think of something like this on my own... Seth has a little experiment happening over on his blog where Mother Nature is his co-pilot. The Disintegration Collaboration features artists from around the world who are leaving bundles of paper in the elements for a few months to see what happens. We don't have exciting elements here....maybe some wind...a little drizzle...so who knows what I will end up with on May 1.

Cage-out-door

I hung my wire cage up in a palm tree. You should try it too! All you need is a before photo and an after photo. Have fun!

Watermelon I am.

The knitting is coming along nicely for a non-knitter.... My installation will run about 5 feet long on one for sure...maybe two poles in the city. Calling out to all knitters!! All knitters, please report to your stations! The installation date is fast approaching! So what do you get when you only have a few random skeins of yarn?
